Community Base have a technical fault with the telephone voicemail system - therefore ESCU will not have any voicemail facilities until further notice.
Our normal telephone service will still be operational between 09.30 and 16:00 Mon - Fri.

New Newhaven HelpPoint

We are pleased to announce a new HelpPoint at the Newhaven Info Hub (NCDA), 31a High Street, Newhaven, BN9 9PD.  We will be opening every THURSDAY between 10am-12noon.

Lewes District Council grant further funding for East Sussex Credit Union

Following the success of a Pilot Project in Lewes to provide Credit Union outreach services, Lewes District Council has provided additional funding to allow ESCU to expand their Savings and Loans services further in the district, with a particular focus on the havens. Plans are already in place to open a HelpPoint in Newhaven, at the Advice Hub in the High Street on Thursday mornings.

Is Your Employer a Payroll Savings Scheme?

ESCU is encouraging all employers to sign up for their employee payroll savings schemes. General Manager Colin Holden explains 'We are encouraging all employers with ten or more employees to start a scheme with us for their staff. It is quick and simple to do and encourages their staff to manage their finances better. The member of staff decides how much they wish to save each payday and the employer deducts this from their pay and passes it to the ESCU where it is put in a savings account. They can draw the money out easily and the employee then also qualifies for loan concessions as well.'

ESCU Announces Help For Private Landlords

ESCU has launched a new scheme, to help private landlords collect their rent from tenants in the City of Brighton and Hove area. The new service allows landlords and tenants, to set up an arrangement so that the tenants Housing Benefit (Local Housing Allowance) is paid into their Credit Union account. The Credit Union then forwards the rent payment to the landlord automatically ensuring the rent gets paid.

General Manager Colin Holden said ' this scheme is now common in other parts of the country and is popular as it takes the stress out of paying rent for those without access to high street banks. Initially we are running it in Brighton and Hove but hope that the other Councils and landlords in East Sussex will be interested as well.'
